Bio 40A professor Jeff introduction

Dear Foothill Students,

I hope you have found some moments of joy and relaxation over the winter holidays!  You are receiving this message because you are enrolled in my Bio 40A class this winter.  I'm very much looking forward to meeting you next week and beginning our Bio 40A adventures! Please read on below for some important information and announcements.

Our first meeting...
Our class includes lectures on campus from 12:00-1:50pm on Tuesdays in Room 5001 and labs on campus from 2:00-4:50pm on Tuesdays in Room 5106.

Please attend your lab and lecture meetings on Tuesday, January 9th, to confirm your spot in the class.

If for some reason you cannot attend on the 9th, please let me know.  I'm required to drop students that are not in attendance that day, unless they have contacted me in advance.

The class will also include weekly, independent work on Canvas.  You will learn more about that next week.

Learning about you...
I would value the opportunity to learn a little about you and how best to serve you in the winter.  To that end, please click on the link below to complete a brief survey.  None of the survey questions are "required" so you can skip questions as you wish.  However, I would really value your input!  You will receive a couple points of course credit for completing the survey.

Our syllabus and calendar...
For your reference, attached you will find a draft syllabus and course calendar.  I know that you need to plan ahead for the quarter, so we will do our best to adhere to the schedule and structures outlined here.  Of course, in these unusual times, we will also be flexible as necessary to ensure the class is working for everyone.

Course materials...
There are no required textbooks or other course materials to purchase.  You will only need a device and an internet connection appropriate for participating in online activities (e.g., for our Canvas-based homework).  Foothill's financial aid office can help you acquire technology or other resources!  https://foothill.edu/financialaid/contact-us.html

Thank you!
Thank you for being a part of our Foothill College and Bio 40A community!  I am excited to learn with you this quarter.  I hope you are doing well as we enter the new year and I invite you to reach out with any questions or concerns!

Best wishes,

Jeff
